How We Stop Dental Problems Before They Start
If you’ve ever wondered about what your dentist is actually looking for during your oral exam, then you’ve come to the right place! Dr. Flex and Dr. Hodge are more than happy to let you know why and how they perform any treatment so that you can be more informed about your dental care.
During your oral exam, we are:
- Looking at the overall state of your teeth, gums, and mouth.
- Looking for dental problems such as tooth decay, gum disease, oral cancer, and more.
- Determining which kinds of dental treatments you might need in the future.
- Checking to make sure your jaw/bite is properly aligned.
Of course, your complete oral exam doesn’t just happen while you’re in the treatment chair. Beforehand, one of our hygienists will take x-rays of your entire mouth that we’ll use to check for potentially hidden problems.
After finishing your checkup and evaluating your x-rays, we’ll take a little time to discuss our findings with you. To us, patient education is very important, and the more you know, the more likely you are to take better care of your teeth.
We’ll discuss any treatments that you might need in the future, as well as talk about things you could possibly tweak within your own oral hygiene routine that could improve your dental health. Of course, you’ll be able to ask any and all questions during this entire process and we will make a plan together. No question is too small or silly, so if you’re curious about something, it’s always OK to ask!
Hopefully this gave you a little more information about what to expect during your next checkup. It’s one of the most important tools that we use every day because it allows us to catch dental problems while they are still easy to treat.
